Richard Florida on “The Geography of Stuck”
Nearly six in ten Americans live in the state where they were born, according to the U.S. Census bureau. But there is considerable variation from state to state, as the map (above) by Zara Matheson of the Martin Prosperity Institute shows. More than three quarters of the people in Louisiana (78.9 percent), Michigan (76.6 percent) and Ohio (75.1 percent) were born there…
Compare to this county-by-county map of how people moved in 2010.
Thx, mlarson!

Shows how spread out Houston really is.

This is perhaps the most hilarious aspect of being a “fake poor but still living in da first world” 20-something. No one has money for anything ever but when you come over to someone’s apartment, it’s filled to the brim with bourgie groceries. When did Whole Foods become our drug dealer?

Spending Money Like A 20-Something « Thought Catalog

This applies to approximately 90% of my friends.

30 November 10

thanks, Cass for passing this to me :)

The video was put together by a guy named Walter C. May and his roommates—who just happen to be in a band called The Daylights. It was posted on YouTube yesterday and has since then been tweeted about by May’s friends, random strangers, and even Katy Perry.

But May’s girlfriend, for whom the video was made, hasn’t seen it yet.

That’s because May wanted the video to reach her organically—through tweets, links passed between friends, and blog posts. He wanted to show his girl that they “can feel close without having to be close every day,” and that their relationship can remain strong even though they’ll be thousands of miles apart over the next two years.

Mango Fail

  • Jordan has been anxiously awaiting his mango to ripen.
  • J: G*#D@(#$*
  • A: (running out of my room) What happened?!
  • J: (sadly looking down as an unripe mango)
  • A: Oh, whew, I thought you cut off a toe or something

shameless plug / solicitation (please reblog if you are feeling particularly magnanimous / need extra karma points today):
I am running the Marine Corps Marathon (2nd time!) in October and have entered as a charity runner on behalf of an awesome non-profit called BACK ON MY FEET, which is a group that helps promote the self-sufficiency of the homeless by engaging them in running as a way to build confidence, strength, and self-esteem.
I recently started running with the DC chapter of Back on my Feet (with guys from La Casa Transitional Rehabilitation Program shelter - http://www.dccfh.org/LaCasa.php) and am definitely impressed with everything so far.  If you are interested in joining as a volunteer runner, Back on my Feet has chapters in DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, & Boston, and will be starting in DFW, Mps / St. Paul, Chicago and Atlanta soon.
I am 94% of the way to my goal of raising $2500 - just $140 to go.

If you want to help you can click on the picture above or visit http://www.active.com/donate/BOMFMCMarathon2010/mollybierman.  Any amount is greatly appreciated.  THANK YOU to all those who have donated already!!!!
(seriously do it. you will feel so good afterwards)
